I've always enjoyed math. It wasn't necessarily my strongest area but I found a certain level of comfort in the rules. I honestly do use math in my day to day job frequently and have always kept a calculator on at my desk.
During my freshman year of college I started out thinking I was going to be "a scientist". I literally didn't have any further explanation beyond that. On paper I was "Undeclared - Physical Sciences" which I suppose means that I wasn't planning on being a biologist. As part of this non-trajectory I started my first quarter enrolled in the math series that all us scientists were expected to take. I was in a huge lecture hall packed full of people who seemed to know what kind of scientist they were going to be.
By the end of the first quarter I quickly realized I was in over my head. I switched from my vague "Undeclared - Physical Sciences" to the more flowery "Visual Communication & Presentation" (more colloquially known as "Design"). This path did not require any math. However, I did something that confused a lot of people. I decided to drop down into the non-scientist math series and continue on. Everyone else in my new major thought I was nuts as many of them had chosen this path to steer clear of math and sciences. Additionally, my math classmates were perplexed as to why I was in their class when I really didn't need to be.
I can't really say exactly why I continued on. I think partially I was nervous about pivoting to Design as my confidence in my creative side was very low. I also believe that I wanted to prove that I could do it and I didn't want to end my scholastic math career feeling like I had given up.
So on that note here is a mix of songs that have numbers in the title. Enjoy!
