In the film adaptation of Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity, Rob (John Cusack) says that he’s “feeling kinda basic” and creating a “top five track one, side ones.” His list goes in for awhile until Barry (Jack Black) interrupts “Oh, that's not obvious enough Rob. How about the Beatles? Or fucking... fucking Beethoven? Side one, Track one of the Fifth Symphony... How can someone with no interest in music own a record store?”
And ever since I saw that that, I’ve wanted to make a track one, side ones. This is that.
(Side note: pretty sure this is also in the book. I really love Nick Hornby, although I haven’t read him in a solid decade. Really good “self deprecating, what does it mean to be a sort of shit human but also appreciate that this life is a miracle” stuff. He may not have aged well, I don’t want to google.)
